Again, I give you an eternal truth: If two of you agree to ask God for something in a symphony of prayer, my heavenly Father will do it for you. Matthew 18:19 The Passion Translation
I also tell you this: If two of you agree here on earth concerning anything you ask, my Father in heaven will do it for you. New Living Translation
Again I say to you, that if two of you agree on earth about anything that they may ask, it shall be done for them by My Father who is in heaven. New American Standard Bible
Again I tell you, if two of you on earth agree (harmonize together, make a symphony together) about whatever [anything and everything] they may ask, it will come to pass and be done for them by My Father in heaven. Amplified Bible Classic Edition
You cannot dispute this solid truth that Jesus spoke to us long ago. It’s still true today and I believe it with my whole being, but can I clarify something here? Will you allow me to go just a little deeper?
This word ‘agree’ is mentioned in each translation because it is key. Let’s take a look at what the dictionary says: to have the same views, emotions, etc.; harmonize in opinion or feeling; to come to one opinion or mind; come to an arrangement or understanding; arrive at a settlement: to concede or grant.
When I’m looking for a partner to agree with me in something, I look for someone who has the same mindset, the same outlook or opinion. I personally know a remnant of people who I can call, briefly explain my situation (details are never needed) and what the Word says about it and they immediately come into agreement with me and begin declaring the Word over the issue.
What I don’t do is talk to everyone about what’s going on. Why? Because I don’t want contrary words of people who wag their tongue and tell everyone their opinions, out there. That is counterproductive! It’s not to say I’ve never done it, I have before I knew better. But there’s nothing like going through something and watching your prayers not be answered because the ‘agreement’ part went wrong.
Here’s what I’ve learned that may help you in your situation. 1. First and foremost, know the Word. If it’s promised, it’s yours! 2. Write the scriptures down and keep it before your face. Meditate on it until it becomes a part of you. 3. Regardless of what it looks like in the natural, DON’T CHANGE YOUR CONFESSION OF FAITH! 4. Trust God. Trust His timing, His way, His purview. He knows more than you ever will so trust Him.
There is no magic formula, no coercing God into doing what you want. It’s simple, really. He said it, that settles it. Go your way, live your life, focus on others, be surrendered to God and live out your trust one day at a time. You’ll struggle. You’ll be discouraged. You’ll cry. You’ll question. You’ll be angry and you’ll be hurt. Don’t take it personally, the battle isn’t yours, it’s Gods. Keep surrendering it to Him and start over again. Repeat until you see the manifestation of what you’ve asked for.
I’ll come into agreement with you for what you’re believing for but you put in the leg work. Come prepared before the throne of God, He will hear you.
Until Tomorrow,
Sandy G
