Isaiah 55:8-11 ERV; The Lord says, “My thoughts are not like yours. Your ways are not like mine. Just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways, and my thoughts are higher than your thoughts.
“Rain and snow fall from the sky and don’t return until they have watered the ground. Then the ground causes the plants to sprout and grow, and they produce seeds for the farmer and food for people to eat. In the same way, my words leave my mouth, and they don’t come back without results. My words make the things happen that I want to happen. They succeed in doing what I send them to do.”
These verses were some of our text from last nights sermon and were still speaking to my spirit when I got out of bed this morning. Wouldn’t it be awesome if we could think and speak like God? To know our full potential, the value of our thoughts, words and deeds. To think that we were created by the same God who created the entire universe and all the creatures in the sea and on the earth. Every plant, every body of water, everything was made by Him for us. WOW! He set the example for us and had it written in a book so that we could not just know of Him, but intimately know Him as Father and friend.
Jesus, the example of God in the earth, told us that all power and authority has been given to us. He told us to speak to mountains, ‘Be gone!’ and they would leave, if we fully expected them to go. He showed us Fathers intentions when he told us to love; not just those who are kind to us, but those who are not. You see, our problem isn’t that we’re not able to speak and it be done, it’s merely a belief issue. We just don’t believe. We’ve become cynical, unbelieving, judgmental, critical and unloving spoiled children who want the good stuff but we want it our way. We want what we want, when we want it, without doing what it takes to get it done.
I know we’ve heard this before but it bears repeating; the definition of insanity is doing the same things over and over expecting different results. If we want things to change in our lives, we must do it God’s way and not our own. We must believe, not in our own abilities, but in God’s ability and power to carry through. There is no limit to what God can do through us if we believe that whatever we say, will come to pass. Time to take inventory of our words. I dare you! For one day, listen to what comes out of your mouth and ask yourself, ‘Do I really want that to happen? Do I really mean that? Does this sound like something Jesus would say?’
Father, forgive my careless speaking, my words that were not filtered in love. If I had a sieve to catch all the words I spoke that were not pleasing to you and had to eat them, I would choke on them. I cannot afford to be careless any longer. You have called me to declare over nations, cities and people, freedom and liberty, love, grace and mercy. My words matter just as Yours do and I have defiled the river that flows from my mouth. Forgive me, wash my mouth out with the strong soap of your love. Too many lost and lonely people are waiting for me to speak truth, hope and love to them. May I not forget the sacrifice you made to give me authority. It’s in Jesus’ name I ask this. Amen
