One Law To Keep

Matthew 7:23 CSB says; Then I will announce to them, ‘I never knew you. Depart from me, you lawbreakers!’

I couldn’t stop thinking about this verse this morning but I knew there was something I was missing, although the intent was plain. I began breaking down some of the words I was seeing. No, I didn’t get my Strong’s out. No time this morning! But see if this resonates with you.

That word ‘knew’ felt like an intimate term, not an acquaintance, but a deep relationship. That word alone says a whole lot. There are people who think they know God, but it’s more of a head knowledge than a heart knowledge.

But the ‘lawbreakers’ or in other translations, workers of iniquity, that just wouldn’t go away. As I meditated on it, I thought about the most important law Jesus talked about in the New Testament and found the answer was; To love the Lord God with all your heart and soul, and to love your neighbor as yourself.

Love is a powerful thing. It should be a deep reflection of what we see when the pressure is on. But if the love of God isn’t in us, than what comes out is critical and judgmental. Love covers, but hatred exposes. Love heals, but hatred wounds.

Just because we don’t see eye to eye or agree with each others point of view, doesn’t mean you should hate me. If you’re frustrated, it’s merely a sign that you’re unable to control me or manipulate me into your line of thinking. It’s ok! I have the Holy Spirit inside of me and He promises to lead me into all truth!

You don’t have to agree with me, or like what I write. Like what He writes and allow Him to peel back the layers of wrong thinking so that you can be free to love and learn to trust in the God who loved us all enough to send us a Savior.

Thank You Lord! Every time I open Your book I’m deeply aware of how little I know You and how much more You have to show me. It’s what keeps me coming back every day, to sit at Your feet and hear Your sweet voice whisper, “I love you! Here’s another part of My love that you haven’t experienced yet.”

So I wait for You, my endless delight.
