And he believed! Believed God! God declared him “Set-Right-with-God.” Genesis 15:6 Message
This scripture reminded me of an old song we used to sing, Only Believe. I’m sure some of you remember the lyrics. It was a simple but repetitive chorus that stated; Only Believe. Only Believe. All things are possible. Only Believe. Only Believe. Only Believe. All things are possible. Only Believe.
It’s the key to everything, isn’t it? To believe. John 3:16-18 in the Message version gift wraps it for us:
“This is how much God loved the world: He gave his Son, his one and only Son. And this is why: so that no one need be destroyed; by believing in him, anyone can have a whole and lasting life. God didn’t go to all the trouble of sending his Son merely to point an accusing finger, telling the world how bad it was. He came to help, to put the world right again. Anyone who trusts in him is acquitted; anyone who refuses to trust him has long since been under the death sentence without knowing it. And why? Because of that person’s failure to believe in the one-of-a-kind Son of God when introduced to him.”
There’s nothing forced here, it is always a choice with God. He holds in each hand, life and death, blessing and curses, ours to choose which way we’ll go. He didn’t say life would be easy. He didn’t say we wouldn’t have to go through lots of stuff. But He did say He’d accompany us on the journey and that we would be invited to have relationship with Him.
We’re so caught up in our own plans that we’ve forgotten that our life isn’t our own. We’ve been purchased with blood, a life for a life. I was given a second chance and I took it. I’m so thankful. I won’t forget the sacrifice. I won’t forget the freedom purchased for me by that blood. Every day I remember. Today, I get to do life with Jesus.
I choose to believe. My choice is a lasting one. On good days and bad days, when it rains or shines, I will believe. Each day I offer myself, my gifts and my messes to You Lord. Do with me according to Your will in Jesus’ name, Amen.
Believing Always,
Sandy G
