“So if you are presenting a sacrifice at the altar in the Temple and you suddenly remember that someone has something against you, leave your sacrifice there at the altar. Go and be reconciled to that person. Then come and offer your sacrifice to God.” Matthew 5:23 NLT
We sure do skip over that verse, don’t we? Our response is often, ‘Hey, it’s their problem, not mine! I don’t hold anything against them.’ But thats not what that says. If you remember someone has something against you. Doesn’t matter where the fault lies, it’s on us to resolve it, ask forgiveness, clarify content.
Everyone perceives things differently. Misunderstandings happen everyday but what do we do about it? How many times have we thought, ‘I know what I meant, he shouldn’t have jumped to that conclusion?’ How petty will that sound before Jesus? Do we pass on generationally, the attitude that we are always right?
God, give us a humble heart. A heart that is willing to not just forgive but to ASK forgiveness. We want to stand before you with a clear conscience that you would receive the sacrifice of our worship, our offerings would be blessed and increase would come in every area of our life. With humble hearts, we who have received your forgiveness for past, present and future wrongs, also extend the same to those we’ve harbored unforgiveness toward. Remind us often of your grace and mercy, help us to live to extend the same.
Happy Forgiving!
