From Ordinary to Extra Ordinary

Unknown

But God chose those whom the world considers foolish to shame those who think they are wise, and God chose the puny and powerless to shame the high and mighty.                 1 Corinthians 1:27 TPT

I listened attentively as a woman told me how her friend had been sick with one thing after another, serious things that landed them in the hospital. They had recently called her asking for prayer after adding another thing to the already long list of symptoms. Suddenly she got angry in her spirit and something rose up on the inside of her. She began to speak to that spirit of infirmity to come off! When they woke in the night to take their medication, all symptoms had disappeared.

I love to hear stories like this one. So this morning as I’m thinking about this, I was led to look for scripture where the Spirit of the Lord came on ordinary people and this is what I found.

Exodus 3 tells of Moses and his encounter with God to deliver His people from Egypt.

Judges 6:33-35 where Gideon rose up and blew the trumpet, gathering the tribes to war.

Judges 14 tells of Samson when the Spirit of the Lord came on him, he tore apart a lion with his bare hands.

I Samuel 16 tells of David, unwelcome and unacknowledged in his own home, when anointed king, the Spirit of the Lord came on him and never left him.

These are only a few examples of how God takes the ordinary and makes them extra ordinary. You see, when the Spirit of the Lord comes on you it’s like lighting the fuse on a stick of dynamite. It’s always been in you, powerful in itself, but until it’s lit it has no effect on anyone or anything.

The Word is in you, but when you activate it by proclaiming it into a situation, it’s a done deal! Once you’ve experienced that, you’ll never doubt the power of Gods Word ever again.

We were created to be imitators of Christ–Word speakers. We simply don’t tap into the power that’s inside of us. We must be motivated by love and compassion, not wealth or fame, then we’ll change the world we live in one person at a time.

Father, we need your Spirit to inhabit us so that we can be your powerful witnesses in the earth. Light the fuse of your Word that we may be doers, not just hearers, powerhouses for you.

  1. Homer Les says:

Good word Sandy. He is ready, willing and able to light that fuse but too often our wick is wet. As long as we harbor the ‘self’ nature within it will act like bung on a barrel, preventing the goodness of Jesus from coming out. If we repent of ‘self’ Jesus can indeed light that wick and explode the Word in us and through us. May we all yield to His will in this.
