“So I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. If a son asks for bread from any father among you, will he give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent instead of a fish? Or if he asks for an egg, will he offer him a scorpion? If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!” Luke 11:9-13
I remember when our firstborn, Stacy, was only two years old. She was so curious! Always asking questions about everything. “Mom, why does daddy have to work?” “Mom, why can’t I have candy for breakfast?” She was so easy to understand from such a young age, and she wasn’t asking questions to be belligerent, she was a thinker and really wanted to know.
What I didn’t do was brush her off because I was busy or didn’t want to be bothered. I was her mom and therefore her teacher. If she had questions, it was my job to answer them to the best of my ability. To this day, she’s still a deep thinker and a wise woman of God who knows how to hear Gods voice and ask Him questions.
“Call to Me and I will answer you, and will tell you great and hidden things that you have not known.” Jeremiah 33:3 (ESV)
The key to knowing is asking, seeking and knocking. Asking denotes using your words to inquire of someone about something. Seeking denotes a hunt for discovery of something hidden. But knocking. it’s an announcement I’ve arrived for a visit.
I have assurance that God is always available to answer my questions. He never turns a deaf ear. He’s never too busy. I will always ask Him and expect an answer. It may come through someone He sends to me, but He will always answer me. My questions are never silly to Him. He is such a good Father that He always answers! ALWAYS!
Father, thanks for listening to me and providing me with the answers I need. I’m not fumbling my way through life because You always give me directions, warn me of traps and snares, and keep me safe and secure. My heart trusts in You alone. You gave me Your Spirit to live inside of me so I’m never alone, How I love You!
For everyone asking, give them answers. For each one seeking today, show them hidden secrets. And for all who knock, I know You’ve been waiting for them and have prepared a feast of fellowship for them. It’s in Jesus’ name, Amen.
