“So don’t worry at all about having enough food and clothing. Why be like the heathen? For they take pride in all these things and are deeply concerned about them. But your heavenly Father already knows perfectly well that you need them, and he will give them to you if you give him first place in your life and live as he wants you to.” Matthew 6:31-33 TLB
Don’t you just love the promises of God? I can’t number the times I’ve said this promise. Countless times to myself and others. “God will supply all your needs! He’s not short on supply. You can count on Him to do what He’s said.” It’s true! I know it, you know it. Why? Because God said it so we know it’s a done deal.
But that last part….”if you give him first place in your life and live as he wants you to.” We tend to leave that part out, don’t we? We love the promise, but the rest, not so much! There’s our part and there is Gods part. He will always keep His part but is waiting for us to keep ours.
Think about it for a moment. Would you give money to an alcoholic knowing they’re just going to go buy more alcohol? Probably not. You’re more apt to buy them a meal or give them a place out of the cold, but you’d be foolish to give them money. We want our needs met so we can live comfortable lives and be happy but that ‘if’ part we feel it’s optional.
Perhaps we should be working on finding out how God wants us to live our lives and putting Him first place, not second, third or last place. What a novel thought! What would our world look like if we allowed the Love of God to free flow out of us? What if we were the light in the darkness, showing people the way to Love?
What if we thought of others first, gave out of our small supply to be a blessing instead of looking to bless after we are. I’m convinced that is Gods way. Stop focusing on what you don’t have and ask God what to do with what you do have.
Father, I believe Your Word has the final say. You WILL provide ALL just as You said so I will focus on putting You first and giving my attention to doing Your will. My only value is found in You. Help me to be the salt that seasons and the light that dispels darkness. May Your love be found in me far greater than the hatred found around me. It’s in Jesus’ name and for Your glory, Amen.
