Let every word you speak be drenched with grace and tempered with truth and clarity. For then you will be prepared to give a respectful answer to anyone who asks about your faith. Colossians 4:6 TPT
Have you ever tried to explain something to someone and you get the feeling that they just aren’t getting it? I have! There are times I feel I’m not communicating correctly, that something’s been lost in the translation. In writing, I will go back several times and re-read it and think about it, asking myself if it’s easy to understand? Have I been relevant? Can this be misconstrued?
Being misunderstood is never my goal, but it happens! So my heart is always that the things I say be drenched with grace and tempered with truth and clarity. That I will be respectful in my delivery and that others receive it in the love it was sent in.
I have to remind myself that Jesus was misunderstood at times. People didn’t always understand him but some knew to ask for clarification. Even his disciples who knew him well didn’t understand everything He said, so they asked!
I believe that the closer we get to God, the more truth He will expose to us. Much of our misunderstanding someone comes from our own filters. If we clean out our filters, we will begin to see and understand what He says and how to apply it to our lives.
Father, I ask you to please clean out the filters in my heart that block me from knowing and understanding your deep and abiding love for me. If I am unable to receive your love, I’ll be unable to give your love. Baptize me in love. Fill me with love. Give me revelation of your love so that I in turn can love others. It’s in Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
