“If possible, so far as it depends on you, be at peace with all people. Never take your own revenge, beloved, but leave room for the wrath of God, for it is written: “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord. “But if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him a drink; for in so doing you will heap burning coals on his head.” Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.”
Romans 12:18-21 NASB2020
I’ve been thinking about these verses and how applicable they are today. We begin at home with our spouse and children, setting an example in our cars as we drive.
Trust me when I say that I have not been that example when I drive. If you’ve ever ridden with either of my daughters, you’ll know where they get it from.
Somedays I wonder how Paul would have written differently if he’d had our traffic and faced entitled drivers. I wonder how road rage would have been addressed.
But here’s what I’m seeing, regardless of the times we live in, we can’t control what others do. We can only control ourselves.
Paul said, “If possible,” which implies that there are times when it won’t be. Even if you’re reading it or listening to it on the news, let the peace of God reign in your thoughts and words. Remember what Jesus said about the last days? Things will get worse and worse. Nations against Nations, kingdoms against kingdoms, husbands against wives and children against parents.
But as believers, our peace comes from our God and we are assured that He will have His vengeance. Not in our timing, but His. Pray for those who persecute you. Remember our weapons are not guns and swords, but they are mighty through God to pull down strongholds.
Your words lined up with Gods Word are undefeatable. Psalm 91 is a covenant promise God will not break for those who believe and trust in Him.
You can’t do it on your own. It takes daily submission to the Holy Spirit. Praying, Kingdom come, will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Lifting your hands to God as your King and giving Him complete control of yourself so He can accomplish what needs to be done before He returns for us.
Instead of begging Him to return for us so we can escape and live happily ever after, let’s go out and gather the harvest that everyone has a chance to know God as we do.
Happy gathering.
