And all that is within me, bless His holy name. Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget none of His benefits; Who pardons all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases; Who redeems your life from the pit, Who crowns you with lovingkindness and compassion; Who satisfies your years with good things,
So that your youth is renewed like the eagle. Psalm 103:1-5 NASB
Just before I was married, I lived with my Grandpa and Grandma Smith (my moms parents). They truly loved the Lord with all their hearts. They had started at least 2 churches in Lansing, Michigan before I was born, would give their last dime to help someone in need. Good people! But the thing I loved to watch the most was that before they lay down to sleep, they would sit on the edge of the bed and say a Psalm they had memorized. This was one I happened to be home for and was asked to sit on the bed and join in.
It didn’t matter that I didn’t know all the words, it was the words themselves that made the huge difference. It was the declaration to never forget that God is always faithful. Faithful to forgive, to heal, to redeem me from the pits. Who actually crowns me with lovingkindness and compassion, two very important things to have in my life.
I don’t ever want to forget who satisfies my life with good things and renews my youth like the eagle. I remind myself that things could be worse. I’m not sick. I’m not homeless. I have friends and family who love me even in my weirder moments.
Remember to be thankful today,
