John 3:16 ERV; Yes, God loved the world so much that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him would not be lost but have eternal life.
I John 3:16 ERV; This is how we know what real love is: Jesus gave his life for us. So we should give our lives for each other as brothers and sisters.
Look at what I found! Another treasure in the Word this morning. We’re all familiar with John 3:16, but how about I John 3:16. The first showed the love of God given to us, the second reminds us of the gift and that we should give our lives for others. I wonder if the writer knew they would break both those books down to chapter and verse and how they would play out? Probably not, but I’m sure God did.
My take from this is that Jesus as always, is our example. What he did, we are to do also. He was the ground breaker, the path forger, the one who went before us, the firstborn of many brothers. If we don’t know him, how can we possibly follow his example? It’s not enough to just be a Christian and go to heaven. His plan was to take many with him, and although he is the way to the Father, we are to be a light for others to want to follow.
Love is an action. You can’t just say it, you must also do it. The action in these verses show a sacrificial life of love. That’s to love even though it’s not reciprocated. To be the first to love and the last to love. To take love to a ‘whole nutha level’! Not as the world loves, but as only God can love. When was the last time you loved like that? I Corinthians 13:4-7 says, “Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous, it does not brag, and it is not proud. Love is not rude, it is not selfish, and it cannot be made angry easily. Love does not remember wrongs done against it. Love is never happy when others do wrong, but it is always happy with the truth. Love never gives up on people. It never stops trusting, never loses hope, and never quits.”
Father, I thank you the love I experience each day with you. So often I screw up and get it wrong, but there you are, patiently showing me a better way. How sweet of you to send your Holy Spirit to help me love, to remind me to submit to your way of loving, unconditionally and completely. May my life do what it is suppose to do; stay in the background with your love in front. I surrender to this life of love. It’s in Jesus’ Name I pray, Amen.
