Brag Time

I Corinthians 1:26-31 GW;  Brothers and sisters, consider what you were when God called you to be Christians. Not many of you were wise from a human point of view. You were not in powerful positions or in the upper social classes.  But God chose what the world considers nonsense to put wise people to shame. God chose what the world considers weak to put what is strong to shame. God chose what the world considers ordinary and what it despises—what it considers to be nothing—in order to destroy what it considers to be something.  As a result, no one can brag in God’s presence.  You are partners with Christ Jesus because of God. Jesus has become our wisdom sent from God, our approval, our holiness, and our ransom from sin.  As Scripture says, “Whoever brags must brag about what the Lord has done.”

I can so relate to what Paul wrote here. When I answered the call to lay down my life, I was 15 years old. I was not wise, of lower class. But I was hungry. Hungry to know God, to not just know about him but to know him intimately and personally. I believed and still believe that God made us so that he would have someone to fellowship with, so that is always my goal and desire each day, to spend time with my Father, exchanging conversation. I lavish him with love, he gives me peace and joy. My love is puny but his is LARGE. It’s His love that changes mine. He makes me more than I am.

I won’t brag about myself, but I will brag about what the Lord has done. He’s been so faithful to me! He’s given me a home and a family, a job, a car, a church, food in my cupboards, clothes in my closet. He’s given me friends who care about me and pray for me, make me laugh, bring me joy. I’m rich in things that money can’t buy nor can the world provide. He’s a wonderful, just and caring Father. Whenever the cares of this life threaten to take my joy, I simply remember what the Lord has done and I bubble up with joy again.

Thank you Lord for the times we talk and share, I treasure them. It helps me make it through another day in anticipation of more time with you in the morning. I think of you all day long, it’s those times when I sense you near me because you never leave me alone. You are such a great friend to me. If my friends influence me to be better, you are my greatest influence. I just want to please you and bring a smile to your face.  I’m forever yours, Sandy
