Matthew 7:24-27 MSG “These words I speak to you are not incidental additions to your life, homeowner improvements to your standard of living. They are foundational words, words to build a life on. If you work these words into your life, you are like a smart carpenter who built his house on solid rock. Rain poured down, the river flooded, a tornado hit—but nothing moved that house. It was fixed to the rock.
“But if you just use my words in Bible studies and don’t work them into your life, you are like a stupid carpenter who built his house on the sandy beach. When a storm rolled in and the waves came up, it collapsed like a house of cards.”
Wow! Nothing like a different translation to bring it home! There comes a point in everyones life when we stop hearing and start doing. We can attend church every time the doors are opened, listen to cd’s, dvd’s, podcasts, pray in the Spirit for 2 hours a day, all of these things are nothing unless you apply the Word you hear. There comes a time when you must pick up your tool belt, put it on and use it.
I used to make my own bread and one thing I learned is that you must work the yeast into the bread. Kneading is an important part of the process and you do it until the dough looks right. After that, you let it rest until it rises, punch it down, divide it and place it in two pans, cover it, set it in a warm place and let it rise till doubled, then bake it. You enjoy the bread AFTER it’s baked. We as Christians want the blessings without working the Word and using our faith over and over until we see what we’re believing for come to pass. Stop taking a pill each time you have a pain and start standing on the Word of God for your healing. You have to work your faith, not just once, but you have to keep working it.
That’s why the Word tells us to give first. Give and it will be given. Jesus also said that whatever you use to give it out with is what will be used to return it to you. If you give spoon sized offerings, expect spoon sized blessings. If you give using a bucket, expect bucket sized blessings. But my friend, if you use a dump truck, watch out now, do you hear the ‘beep beep beep’, that means your blessings getting ready to dump on you. Ha! You just can’t out give God, but don’t expect a harvest where you’ve not planted seed.
It’s time we took the Word of God seriously and build on the Rock. His Word is a sure foundation, a mighty fortress, it’s active, powerful and it’s working in me. I’m not just going to write about the Word, I’m going to knead it until I see it rise up and do what it’s meant to do. It’s meant to change me, change you and change the world around us. It’s meant to heal the sick and broken, bring hope and help to those discouraged and lost. It won’t work until we give it away. Whatever you’re in need of, find someone who has that need and seed into them. Then be thankful, asking the Lord to watch over your seed and bless it. He is faithful!
Ephesians 3:20 MSG God can do anything, you know—far more than you could ever imagine or guess or request in your wildest dreams! He does it not by pushing us around but by working within us, his Spirit deeply and gently within us. AMEN!
