And it will come about when the soles of the feet of the priests who carry the ark of the Lord, the Lord of all the earth, rest in the waters of the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan will be cut off, that is, the waters which are flowing down from above; and they will stand in one heap.” Joshua 3:13 NASB2020
I encourage you to go back and read the entire chapter at some point this week. It’s such a testament of why faith is so important and that without faith, it’s impossible to please God.
Those priests were given a pretty simple instruction that day. They were to step into the Jordan river and trust that God would indeed stop the waters and allow all the people to cross to the other side.
Why would God ask that? Let’s go back up to verse 7, Now the Lord said to Joshua, “This day I will begin to exalt you in the sight of all Israel, so that they will know that just as I have been with Moses, I will be with you.”
So God was establishing new leadership much the same way He did with Moses when He parted the Red Sea. He knew what was needed for the rest of the journey.
I want you to look at your own life and the many times God asked you to do something that made absolutely no sense at all. Did you obey and take the risk, or stay in your safe zone to cautiously observe?
Here’s what I’ve learned over a lifetime of listening and obeying that small voice inside. There’s no reward in observation. Only obedient movement yields reward.
Those 12 men assigned to carry the presence of God, took the risk and were rewarded by experiencing not only His presence, but His promised outcome.
Abraham did the same when he left everything behind in obedience to a God he didn’t know. He took the risk and received the promises.
Look through the Bible and see for yourself. God is constantly searching for those who want relationship with Him. He’s looking for those who listen to His voice and are willing to take the risk for the possibility of reward.
Scary? Yes. Worth it? Absolutely! If only to get closer to Him and hear His voice more clearly, that’s rewarding enough. But God always keeps His Word and delivers on His promises to you. It may not happen when and how you think, but it will happen.
I leave you with this: Galatians 6:9 Let’s not become discouraged in doing good, for in due time we will reap, if we do not become weary.
Stay in faith,
Sandy G
