Now the Lord said to Abram, “Go from your country, and from your relatives and from your father’s house, to the land which I will show you; Genesis 12:1 NASB2020
I have always been mesmerized by these verses. It’s as if He was testing Abram to see if he would obey and move.
If any of us had received insane instructions, such as these in our current time, I am pretty sure we would not pass the test. However, I believe that there’s a remnant of believers who will listen to the voice of the Lord and commit to following his direction.
Back in the beginning of the year 2000, I received a clear directive from the Lord that we would be moving to Florida. Both Walt and I had good jobs, we were both involved in great church ministries and were had a home we loved. Our oldest daughter was married with 3 beautiful grandchildren, and our youngest daughter had a job and also involved in ministry.
Walt had no desire to move anywhere, especially not Florida. I vividly remember him saying often, “I would never move to Florida! If someone gave me me property there, I would sell it and stay in Michigan.”
So although I was willing, God had some work to do. I left it in His hands and continued doing what I was doing.
In the fall of 2001, we listed our home and 9/11 happened, the bottom fell out of the market and there was no interest in buying. In January, we re-listed with a Spirit filled believer who asked about our vision, got on board with us.
While in Florida celebrating our anniversary on a luncheon cruise, we received a call from our realtor with a full priced cash offer. Through a friend in Florida, we saw a house she was renovating and made an offer which was accepted.
I didn’t intercede and pray about it. I didn’t try to manipulate my husband to change his mind. I simply said yes and stood and watched God work out all the details.
By September of 2002, we were living in Florida. God positioned us with favor and promotion we’d never sought after or ever dreamed of.
God rewards obedience. He orders and directs our steps. We had a ton of opposition. We had a ton of naysayers. But we stepped out and God provided as He promised.
So regardless of the craziness of the instructions Abram received, he ended up with more than he ever imagined and we’re included as his descendants. I like to think that I take after him a little bit.
Enjoy your journey and listen carefully for Gods instructions.
