When Fear Paralyzes You

‘Do not fear, for I am with you; Do not be afraid, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, I will also help you, I will also uphold you with My righteous right hand.’ Isaiah 41:10 NASB2020

Have you ever experienced the sort of fear that actually freezes you into an iceblock of uncertainty and indecision? I have. There’s nothing like it.

When it first hit me, I thought, no way! I know where fear comes from. I’ll just rebuke the devil and I’ll just remind myself of the Word. God deliberately says not to fear, twice. Easy peasy, right?

The stark reality is that sometimes the fear doesn’t just go away. It rises up big and strong with each decision that needs to be made. Every time I feel alone, although I know I’m not.

I know all the scriptures and have them on recall.

When I am afraid, I will put my trust in You. Psalm 56:3

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil, for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. Psalm 23:4

The Lord is for me; I will not fear; What can man do to me? Psalm 118:6

And the list goes on and on and on. So what do I actually do to unfreeze myself from that debilitating fear? I remind myself of all the ways God’s taken care of me in the past. It’s not my first time frozen and I’m pretty sure it won’t be the last.

Start with your remembers. Make a list if need be, because your mind will never get there on its own. Slowly you’ll feel the ice thaw and the peace and calm begin to shift. It’s there in His presence you’ll find what you need.

Father, I’m certain of one thing, You’re always with me. You direct my steps and provide the answers I need to survive this. Increase my peace. I expect miracles only you can provide. I trust.
