Who Really Cares?

Matthew 6:30-34 MSG; “If God gives such attention to the appearance of wildflowers—most of which are never even seen—don’t you think he’ll attend to you, take pride in you, do his best for you? What I’m trying to do here is to get you to relax, to not be so preoccupied with getting, so you can respond to God’s giving. People who don’t know God and the way he works fuss over these things, but you know both God and how he works. Steep your life in God-reality, God-initiative, God-provisions. Don’t worry about missing out. You’ll find all your everyday human concerns will be met.

“Give your entire attention to what God is doing right now, and don’t get worked up about what may or may not happen tomorrow. God will help you deal with whatever hard things come up when the time comes.”

When you know God, when you know his ways, his love, his mercy and grace, your heart trusts in Him. That is why it’s so important to remind ourselves of what God has done, because it gives us hope. You may be facing a desperate situation right now, something that looks so impossible you just don’t see how it’s going to work out. You wring your hands in worry, fretting about your loss, working out every scenario in your mind. “What if I lose it all?” Go read Matthew 5-7 and realize who God really is. If he cares about the wildflowers, the birds and animals, don’t you think he cares about you? You are much more precious to him than any of those things.

“Give your entire attention to what God is doing right now, and don’t get worked up about what may or may not happen tomorrow. God will help you deal with whatever hard things come up when the time comes.”

There is a story of David in the old testament where he and his men are fighting a battle and when they return, the enemy has snuck in and taken their families, all their livestock, everything they own. Can you imagine? Blindsided by the enemy. How horrible to fight for what is right and come home to find everything gone. They cried, they blamed, the men almost turned on David but David turned to God. “What should I do? Should I pursue them?” Then God answered, “Pursue and overtake them. You’ll get them all back!” (Paraphrased in my words, of course!) So they went after their enemy and found everyone was protected, safe and not only did they get their stuff back, but got all their enemies stuff too. You see, when God wins, he wins big. That’s the kind of God you can trust.

You may wonder why God didn’t just protect the village to begin with, well, they came away with more goods and more trust in God and more trust in David to hear the voice of God. Whatever you’re facing right now, know that God is bigger. Like David, we need to go to God and ask him what we should do. He may say stand still, I’ve got this. He may say go after them, I’ll be with you and you’ll recover all. I’m saying that the most important thing you can do is go to God and wait till you get instructions for your battle. Yes, you can trust him, but he won’t do it the same way each time. He wants you to partner with him, to talk with him and listen to him, he wants to be a part of your life, everyday stuff and extremely hard things. He created us to walk and talk with him daily.

There was an old song I used to sing by Larnell Harris called, I Miss My Time With You. It was a song sung by the Father that went like this; “I miss my time with you, those moments together, I need to be with you each day and it hurts me when you say, you’re too busy. Busy trying to serve me, but how can you serve me, when your spirits empty? There’s a longing in my heart wanting more than just a part of you. It’s true, I miss my time with you.”

Fill my spirit with your Spirit, oh Father. In the quiet place, the stillness of my day, before all the busyness crowds in and takes my time and efforts yet again. Speak to my spirit. I need your direction now. What would you have me do? I want to partner with you today, to do your will, not my own. Thank you for flooding me with your warm embrace of love. You are my comforter, a warm blanket in a cold world. Help me to share that blanket with others today.
