“Therefore know that the Lord your God, He is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and mercy for a thousand generations with those who love Him and keep His commandments;” Deuteronomy 7:9
I love telling stories of Gods faithfulness. Love seeing it in our lives and the lives of our friends and loved ones. I was thinking of the meaning of that word, faithful and found this: true to ones word, dependable, loyal, steadfast fidelity. God has connections! He can bring people together to meet a specific need in someones life, give a perfect word of encouragement at just the right moment, it doesn’t matter where you are, He is forever faithful.
I remember an episode of Gods faithfulness when living in Haiti many years ago. We were down to our last bit of food and doing what we always did, pray. A knock on the door would bring a little old Haitian farmer with a basket of food to the only whites in the village who had made his wife well. A letter would arrive from the states written 3 months earlier with a check for the exact amount we needed.
Whether in a remote region or a crowded metropolis, God is faithful. Sometimes when we’re down to our last dollar and aren’t sure if we’re going to make it to the next paycheck (come on somebody!), God will show us a need and we’ll go through our own pantry to scrape together enough to plant a seed in someone else. Fasting never hurts anyone, if ya know what I mean! When you see the smiles on their faces, the tears of joy, and know you were a part of that God connection, it makes it all worth it somehow.
I sang a song 30 years ago by Debbie Boone that fits so well here; “Find a hurt then heal it, show His love, let them feel it, be a vessel of compassion to your neighbor day by day. Find a hurt then heal it then don’t be surprised to see that while you’re helping your neighbor, your own hurt has gone away. Put your love into action, don’t just talk about it. Reach out and touch your brother, don’t just walk on by. Well I doubt that one person can change the whole world, but you can change the world for someone if you try.”
God, use our seed today. You don’t ask us at convenient times, but You always ask and we’re always willing. Time and time again You are faithful. We want to be faithful to You in tangible ways today, Lord. Faithful to give, to sow good words, good deeds, a smile, a touch. Help us be less focused on ‘me’ and more focused on others. Use us for your good pleasure. We choose to be faithful! It’s in Jesus’ name, Amen.
